Customs We Love: An Amethyst Mourning Ring Containing Ashes

As 2024 comes to a close, I had the honour of completing a special custom commission for a friend to commemorate the memory of his late mother.

The request was for a heavyweight silver ring in a distinctive hexagonal shape, incorporating intricate engravings and a discreet compartment to hold ashes. We chose to craft a reliquary signet ring featuring a portrait-cut purple Amethyst stone  to securely seal the compartment holding the ashes.

The band is adorned with bright-cut engravings of Tibetan eyes. To add contrast the central bezel setting, twinkling stippling surrounds the stone’s high polished setting. I finished the piece with secret initials engraved inside the band visible only to the wearer.

This commission was a heartfelt reminder of the power of jewellery to hold memories and tell the stories of the people we hold dearest. To create a meaningful reminder of a loved one, get in touch to discuss my bespoke service.
