Immortalised In Metal: A Recent Hand Engraving I Love

Immortalised In Metal: A Recent Hand Engraving I Love

One of my favourite things to do is engraving. There’s something deeply satisfying about cutting mirror-bright lines into a freshly polished surface; the way they catch and scatter the light has the ability to bring a piece completely alive.

Whilst I offer laser engraving on many designs due to its speed and precision, especially in awkward or very small areas such as inside ring bands or along the faces of my narrow coffin nails, I’ve always had a love affair with hand engraving.

You’ll see it most prominently throughout my Objet D’Art pieces. Due to their one of a kind nature, and often unusual silhouettes that have been restored from antique objects; hand engraving lends itself beautifully to their otherworldly, artefact feel.

Recently, I’ve begun expanding my hand engraved offerings across more pieces, most notably with this ribbon cut typeface inspired by an 1800s embroidery sample I came across. The flowing curvature of the lettering worked beautifully with the bright cuts of traditional engraving, and it’s now available across all signet rings, personalised letter lockets, and as a complimentary addition to my vessel bottles.
