A custom piece begins long before the first cut of metal or setting of a stone. This payment covers the extensive design development involved in turning your idea into a considered, workable piece of jewellery, from refining the concept and exploring details to considering materials, gemstones, construction and the techniques required to bring it to life.
The full £100 is then credited towards the final balance of your finished commission. It is not an additional fee on top of the cost of your jewellery.
What your deposit covers
Purchasing the £100 deposit secures your place in the custom design process for 6 months.
During this time, I can work with you to:

Develop and refine your initial idea

Discuss materials and gemstones

Explore design details and proportions

Consider construction and setting requirements

Develop the design into a workable piece of jewellery

Prepare a tailored quotation for the finished commission
Once you have purchased the deposit, you will receive an order number. You must include this order number when submitting your custom enquiry form.
Your budget & final quotation
The deposit secures the design service, but it does not guarantee that your proposed design can be produced within a particular budget.
Custom jewellery is individually priced according to the materials, gemstones, construction, techniques and level of detail involved. I will always work with you to design within your budget where possible, and will advise you if your specifications would require an increase in budget.
For example, if your initial budget is £1,000 but the design you have in mind would require £5,000 worth of materials and labour, I will let you know before production is agreed. We can then look at whether the design can be adapted to work within your original budget, or whether you would prefer to increase your budget to achieve the original design.
Your final quotation will be agreed with you before production begins, and your £100 deposit is credited in full against the final balance. The remaining balance will then be due before production begins.
